About Mary Fisher
I grew up in the Brandywine Valley of Pennsylvania and it is here where I draw inspiration for my work. Being surrounded by rolling farm fields, streams, and dense forests, I am in awe of its natural beauty. My art is an attempt to convey this feeling of wonder, reverence, and calm that I feel when I am wandering the countryside of “Penn’s Woods.” My travels around the U.S., Ireland, France, and Africa have also etched these otherworldly landscapes on my creative psyche.
I am influenced by Van Gogh, not just as a painter, but as a writer. I read his letters to his brother, Theo, to help me understand what it means to be a “creative.” I prefer to work in mediums that have a flowing and unpredictable nature to them – plaster for its sculptural and minimalist qualities, inks for their vibrancy and energy, and encaustic for its gorgeous translucency, depth and warmth. I want my work to give the viewer a sense of peace, calm and connectedness to their own memories of their world “outside.”
